Antigone’s catastrophe is when she commits suicide in the cave by hanging herself with the woven linen of her dress. She realized that she was doomed to live out the family curse. She knew that Creon had a cruel death for her and decided that she would rather die by hanging herself so that he would not have the satisfaction. The messenger told Eurydices, “There in the furthest corner of the cave, we saw her hanging by the neck. The rope was of the woven linen of her dress” (Sophocles 159). Creon and Oedipus’ catastrophe was also terrible. Creon’s niece, son, and wife killed themselves and he lost everything. Oedipus found his wife dead and he blinded himself.
